CAMPAIGN REPORTS SHOW:
Joaquin Castro Gave Vandalism
Suspect $2000 ON Day Of Crime
SAL Political Snitch - Commentary - Copyright 2006 SAN ANTONIO LIGHTNING NEWSPAPER

(Editor's note: UPDATE... The address listed for Leticia Cantu
below is bogus. No explanation from Castro Campaign.)

More slop on the Joaquin Castro "Vandal Scandal" has surfaced with the release of the latest campaign reports, and the shocking disclosure that the suspect in the case, Leticia Cantu, was paid $2,000 on the very day of the crime.

Cantu received the money for "Campaign Work," according to the official report.

Castro Campaign Financial Report - 8 Days Before Election

In the early hours of October 12th, police took a report of vandalism of an expensive display for an important endorsement of opponent Republican Nelson Balido by Texas toll road opponents, including the fast growing SA Toll Party. (See stories below.)

The vandalism was video taped.

Castro, who initially denied the suspect was involved in his campaign, later said such activities were "unacceptable."

Other nasty turns have been taken, including an insidious push-polling campaign on the west side, attacking Balido, paraphrased here from several sources:

"If you knew Nelson Balido left his Mexican wife for a white woman, would that make you more likely, less likely to vote for Joaquin Castro, or no difference." (See previous stories below.)

A campaign official with the Castro organization denied "DIRECT" involvement, and Castro denied as "malicious, untrue and defamatory" the Lightning story, in what we take as a threat of legal action against this publication.

If that is Mr Castro's intent, then we urge him to proceed. Otherwise, we will consider it more bluster, from a man in fluster.

We are attempting to get Joaquin Castro to explain exactly what Leticia Cantu's duties are? Gal pal? Black ops? Coffee gopher? Block walker?

The Lightning demands answers.

ORD WAR III
'Damn Your Eyes'
Balido, Castro Email Blasts Over SA Racial Push-Polling
SAL Political Snitch, Commentary

10-29-2006

Goodness, gracious!

The contest for House Rep 125 has become the most contentious of this local political season.

The two candidates, Nelson Balido and Joaquin Castro, are at war over allegations of dirty tricks by Castro -- one act of political vandalism, video taped, and racial push-polling which imply's Balido has left his "Mexican wife for a white woman..." (See stories below.)

A Castro campaign manager says there is "no direct involvement" in the rancid push-polls exposed by the Lightning earlier this week.

In a blistering email Castro denied any involvement, called Balido "desperate" and in what can only be seen as a legal threat to Editor/Publisher RG Griffing the politician wrote:

I am also very disappointed, Mr. Griffing, that you would choose to report as fact a malicious, untrue and defamatory 'story.' (See complete letter in previous stories below.)

The Lightning stands by the story.

In response to the email, and suggestions that his campaign was behind the push-polling, Balido issued his own statement Saturday morning:

It is completely absurd that Joaquin Castro accuses me of trying to hurt my own campaign.

I have focused entirely on Castro's record and well known public behavior while Castro has been conducting, for months, a whisper campaign, accusing me of abandoning my wife and family.

Then, just when I thought he couldn't go any lower, he started push polling the accusation interjecting race into the campaign, and accusing me, to Hispanics, of leaving my "Mexican wife for a white woman."

That's both outrageous and false.

I am married to my one and only wife, Dr. Sandra Balido and have been for going on 11 years now. And Joaquin needs to leave my family alone.

Castro  is either conducting these slanderous and shameless push polls...or he knows who is.

I demand that they stop immediately.
