Lightning Circulation Surges

Editor:

First let me say I love the SA Lightning, I think overall you are doing a great job bringing out the truth about much in SA that the powers that be are able to hush up through our 1 paper town.

I heard about you guys on WOAI during an on air interview relating to the priest who went missing after the allegations of abuse. Since then I have bookmarked your site & am a regular reader.  Again, overall you are doing a great job & I thank you for it.

Your headline story today is misleading at best though (San Antonio Lightning Circulation Blasts Past On Line Express-News, Kens 5 Combined).

I am a web marketing professional with Web-Hed Technologies in town & since web marketing and web statistics are my business I read this article with scrutiny. You clearly make a case that the SA Lightning (SAL) traffic is greater than the Express News (EN) & KENS combined, when that is extremely far from the truth (as you know from the stats page at the EN that you link to in your article).

You are adding just their ‘EN Section’ & their ‘KENS section’ without mentioning their NEWS, BUSINESS, or HOME Page, not to mention the other 10 listed areas.

Are you omitting your home page traffic, or news traffic in your count?  If not then you are clearly making a false and misrepresentative comparison here – not apples to apples but apples to apple seeds. You list your sites total traffic v. less than 1% of their traffic, how could that be valid?

I’m not trying to bitch you guys out or anything but credibility is your edge when it comes to topping the EN. By trying to say you are bigger than them online is ruining your best asset – your credibility with your readers. Don’t try and be bigger than them at any cost, by fluffing numbers or lying. You are doing a good job being better than them reporting the stories that they are afraid to cover – stand on the truth and make lists of the stories you are covering that they don’t mention, that’s how you can show your readers that you are superior to the EN publication.

Thanks for your hard work,

Josh Eyestone

Thanks Josh,

Appreciate your thoughts. You are correct in your observations, to a point.

We choose to compare ourselves to the EN and KENS sections, because everything else on the site is My San Antonio. We count MYSA as a third entity, and as you point out, they are very strong.

We did not mean to imply that we beat MY SA. That is our next target, of course, but we're not there yet.

As to the other two entities, KENS and EN, we stand by our claim.

We are not omitting their other sites. They are. We went with their figures on this one. If they decide to report differently, we will print that, too.

We didn't define those sections. They did.

Under those definitions, we blew them away.

Tax Valuations

Editor:

Just looked at my recent appraisal and found that my little parcel is now worth 42% more than last year.

Land value 2001 = $12590 and 2002 = $17900.

I live in the Wildwood II subdivision just off Guilbeau Rd (near Bandera Rd).If you plug in addresses on Dawnwood Dr , 8227, 8231, 8223 etc., you will see all of us got the same increase.

I'll bet everyone in this subdivision got hit with the same increase.

By the way the average lot size here is only . 17 acres.

That means BCAD feels our land is worth around $90,000 an acre.

AHHS Cheerleaders

Editor:

For several days you reported on the problems with the AHHS cheerleading scandal and now we have not heard anything at all.

Is there no new news on the subject.  What are the actions being taken by the TABC and others?

Fred Quinney

Thanks, Fred

An active investigation is underway by TABC. SAL is also investigating. Expect a break in the case by the end of May.

Pat On The Back For SAL

Editor:
Your online paper continues to improve.
That radar loop is great!
A friend and I are wondering if you will ever publish a newspaper?
Bobby Hendricks
Thanks, Bobby.
Yep! Don't know when. But that's the plan.
